Faith Victory Association (FVA) has recently trained 50 small holder coffee farmers in Gisagara and Huye districts to build their capacity on improved farming methods, cooperative management, financial management and business plan development.

Training in these areas came following the previous capacity assessments conducted by FVA in December 2017 which revealed these capacity gaps covered by the training.

During the training, the farmers were urged to embrace modern cooperative management practices like planning and forecasting, professional book keeping/accounting and budgeting so as to boost confidence in their activities by microfinance institutions. The coffee farmers were urged to build strong relations with all stakeholders involved in the coffee industry including buyers, financial institutions, input suppliers, local authorities among others.

Another session of the training was a practical session on field focusing on improved farming practices like pruning, fertilizer application, coffee growing methods, post-harvest handling and pest management.
